It is such an honor to serve as principal of Dawson County Middle School! Here in Dawson County, we have a unique approach to secondary education, with the middle school housing only 6th and 7th grades. Our staff has a deep understanding of the "tween" years, and you will find that we continually strive to strike the right balance between providing support and fostering independence. Our mission here at DCMS is "Building a community of learners through rigor, relevance, and relationships, one student at a time." We work purposefully to ensure that each student has at least one adult he or she can trust, understands the "why" of what they are learning, is continually challenged to achieve at higher levels. We also focus continually on the "soft skills" of collaboration, problem solving, perseverance, and self-confidence that are so critical to success later in life

If you would like to know more about me personally, I began my career as a middle school special education tea
cher in New York, and later moved to Palm Beach County, Florida where I worked as both an elementary and middle school special education teacher as well as a school-based special education administrator.  In 2002 my husband and I were both hired to teach in Forsyth County, and we have been enjoying the north Georgia life ever since. I also began my career in administration in Forsyth County, having served as Assistant Principal at both South Forsyth Middle School and Piney Grove Middle School prior to my appointment as principal in Dawson County in the 2015-2016 school year. In addition to administration and special education, I hold certifications in reading and middle grades mathematics. As I enter my fifth year in Dawson, I continue to remain humbled by the support and love this community has continually demonstrated, and I am so very grateful to have landed here.

I completed my bachelor’s degree at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania, and my master’s degree is from Long Island University, CW Post Campus. After moving to Georgia, I obtained an Education Specialist degree from North Georgia College and State University (now known as the University of North Georgia), and I subsequently earned a Doctor of Education degree from Northcentral University.

When I am not busy working or doing my best to keep abreast of research in education, I enjoy reading for pleasure, gardening, hiking, and spending time with friends. My greatest pleasure in life, however, is spending time with my family. My husband, Pete, is a retired middle school science teacher, now working as a Graduation Coach at the Dawson Campus of Mountain Education Charter High School. Our son Robert is a Captain in the United States Army, and our daughter Kristi is pursuing her Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology at Georgia Southern University, Armstrong Campus.

I consider myself very blessed to serve the community of  Dawson County Middle School, and I am looking forward to a fantastic year!
