Scoliosis Screening at DCMS

Scoliosis Screening for 6th and 7th Grade

On January 25, 2022  the Dawson County Health Department will be here to assist with scoliosis screenings for all students of Dawson County Middle School.  These screenings help identify any students that may have abnormal curvature of the spine.  These screenings are done every year at the school.  The screenings will be performed by school nurses as well as Dawson County Health Department nurses in a safe environment.  Boys and girls are screened separately.

During the screenings the student will be asked to remove their shirt so that the nurse can look at the student’s back in a standing position and while bending forward.  The screening is a hands-free screening with the nurse only looking for any abnormalities in the spine.  Girls may wear a sports bra or bathing suit under their shirt on the day of the screenings.

If any abnormalities are noted during the screenings you will be notified by Dawson County Health Department.

If you wish for your child not to be screened for scoliosis, please fill out the attached form and return to the school nurse before the screening date.  Hard copies of the form are also being sent home with your child today.
